TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE

Sunday, August 5 v Chipstead & Coulsdon.

By Hansie Jnr

The Bowling

Following tradition we lost the toss and went out to field.

It was the hottest day of the year and there were no clouds to cover the flaming sun.

We started off with Whippet and Juggs who removed one of the hosts’ openers. We then moved onto Farmer, our skipper for the day, and Bishop, who showed an impressive economy rate. Omelette and Hansie Bowled next, Hansie taking two wickets.

There was some drama when Hansie took his first, as the batsman argued with Xero over his decision - but the umpire stood firm. Throughout the the rest of the game there were some nasty comments from the host camp about Xero’s decision, which to be fair was right.

We finished off with Frodo who got a wicket. Their score was 230 for five. We needed a miracle, and that’s exactly what we didn’t get! Before I go on I would liked to say how well Samin fielded although there were a few comedy moments.

The Batting

There’s not much to say about the batting. In fact, one word is enough: shambolic!

But, for the record: Our openers, Juggs and Pilco, looked like they where going to develop a good partnership until Pilco was runout for six. Then Farmer was caught behind for six. Bishop soon followed for one. Samin was caught in the slips on one. Phil was bowled for one. Omelette got out for five. Frodo was out for 0.

Whippet and I saw this as a chance to play for our averages but he got out for three. Finally Hansie showed me how not to bat by getting bowled for a duck. It was a bad end to the day, but hopefully it won’t happen again.
